In Cebu City the month of January is the month of the Sinulog festival. Festivities, contests and other events are scheduled the entire month.
This festival is the center of the Santo Niño celebration in the Philippines. The small statue of Santo Niño is the oldest religious Christian image in the Philippines. It is kept in the Santo Niño Basilica and highly revered by Filipinos.
The main highlight of the festival is the grand street parade which lasts for 9 to 12 hours. This parade takes place on January 17, 2016.
Participants come from the different towns and cities of Cebu and from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. The Sinulog dancers are dressed in bright coloured costumes dancing gracefully to the rhythm of drums, gongs and trumpets.
It is a very colourful and spectacular event, not to be missed. Travel Authentic Philippines offers packages that highlight the Sinulog Festival in 2016.
